I've blogged about this before, but it's worth celebrating often. Once a month my husband takes over all responsibility at home and with the kids and I spend the entire day at the movies. It's my escape from responsibility and gives me all kinds of creative energy that I then throw onto the page. I missed my movie day last month because I was at LTUE and have really felt the lack.
Movie day keeps me sane and lets my kids see a lot more of the nice mom instead of the cranky one who's been around lately. Of course, cranky mom has also had to spend four days in a hotel and the car with kids who refuse to listen, so that might have a little something to do with why she's been surfacing so often lately. Today should fix that for a while, at least until next month rolls around.
First, I'm going to take some flowers to Mom's grave in Bountiful, then I'm treating myself to lunch at my favorite restaurant, The China Platter. After that I'm heading to the theater to see what's playing. I'll buy a bucket of popcorn and some of that white cheddar powder to dump on it and will spend the rest of the day in cinematic bliss. I can hardly wait!

Wow that's a GREAT idea!! That Gary really is awesome huh? Dayne's going fishing this Saturday and taking Bryce and Amanda, so I guess that's a little like getting a day to myself LOL! Wait, those are my helpers, who's gonna make a bottle for Ethan or ride bikes outside with Gabe so I can get laundry done? Aw, man!
I think I just might have to swipe that idea for myself. I'd love to have a day at the movies ALONE. Glad you made it back from Vegas in one piece.

It sounds absolutely divine. I love movies. The whole experience. I worked at a movie theater in High School and was swept away almost nightly. In College, my film instructor told us that there was a chance that the cinema was going the way of the condor. For the same reasons they are now concerned about kindle. But I don't think that will ever happen. Just like the smell of a new book. The movie theater is an experience in itself. A glorious sensual form of escapism where for two hours we stop being and become part of a story. I can see why you love it.
Great idea. Movies do often give us inspiration. I don't go nearly enough. But I do rent them every so often, and when I do I often see a boost of creativity in my writing.
Glad you take a day like that every so often. It's important for our sanity.

I watch movies on comcast while I make Ukrainian Easter eggs. Well, I don't really watch them, I kind of hear them, but it's relaxing all the same.
